[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Sasha Kahnamelli, a Senior Instructor at SoulCycle in Arlington, VA, Bethesda, MD, and Washington, DC.

Wellcomm: Where do you workout?

Sasha Kahnamelli: SoulCycle is my home base, but outside the studio, you’ll usually find me on a tennis court pretending I still have my college legs, lifting when I can, or taking classes around the city as a student so I can ultimately continue to become a better instructor. Currently a big fan of Elanna Bellofatto’s class at Barry’s!

WC: What does wellness mean to you?

SK: Wellness isn’t about being perfect, but, rather, mind and body being as in sync as possible in the moment. It’s about living life in a way so that I have enough energy for the things I actually care about. For me, that means moving my body because I love what it can do, eating well most of the time while also allowing the occasional bottomless chip and salsa vat, making time for friends and hobbies, and paying as much attention to my mental health as my physical health.

WC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?

SK: I’m trying to focus on consistency over rigidity. I’d love to get back to playing competitive level tennis regularly, build more strength in the gym, spend more time outside, and continue prioritizing both physical and mental recovery just as much as physical workouts. The actual fitness part can be easy to make time for. Taking care of yourself in every other way usually takes a little more intention.

WC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?

SK: My friends and community are everything to me. I am incredibly grateful for the people around me who remind me that wellness includes laughing, grabbing dinner, and occasionally touching grass instead of overthinking every little thing.

WC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?

SK: Don’t try and build the routine that your fantasy “perfect you” would have. Build the routine that the version of the real honest you today can stick to. The best workout is the one you will still be doing in six months. It’s not about what you do all the time: it’s about what you do most of the time. Eat the Crunchwrap with added pickled jalapeños.

  • a group workout

  • a pop-up fitness event

  • a race or charity run

  • a pickleball tournament

  • a cycling ride

These events will be shared with all Wellcomm email subscribers, but submissions from former High Fives who are subscribers are prioritized, ideally for events they’re organizing, leading, or personally involved with.
