WellcommDC: The Best of the DMV's Wellness Community

WellcommDC is the email newsletter bringing you the best of the DMV’s wellness community. Get On The List and get Wellcomm sent directly to your inbox. Have a friend who would love Wellcomm? Then please forward our email or tag them on our IG.

[EVENTS RETURN] We’re bringing back DMV event coverage! But rather than share a long list, we’re curating one event per email and calling it our Hit Event. Keep reading to see what we picked this week, how we choose our Hit Events, and the experiences you can expect from Wellcomm going forward.

[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Jade Williams, an Instructor at CycleBar NoMa in Washington, DC.

Wellcomm: Where do you workout?

Jade Williams: When I'm not coaching, you can find me at [solidcore] or running in Rock Creek Park. I love a good burn at barre3. I also lead Cardio Sculpt pop-ups around the DMV!

WC: What does wellness mean to you?

JW: Wellness means using movement to unlock the best parts of yourself. I feel most like me—strong, joyful, and uninhibited—when I’m moving my body. Even on the hard days, I know movement is always there to ground me.

WC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?

JW: Personally, I’ve been focusing on building functional mobility and strength. I recently started taking classes at Up Dog Yoga, and it’s been life changing. I’m also working on staying consistent with weight lifting and getting stronger. Professionally, I’m teeing up to do more Cardio Sculpt pop-ups. Stay tuned!

WC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?

JW: My OG spin besties, Guyton Mathews and Lindsay Bishop, have always kept me accountable and been my biggest cheerleaders. Melissa Miller is my workout partner in crime and is always down to get a post-class sweet treat. My riders are also constantly inspiring me. Watching them show up again and again makes me so proud and pushes me to be better every day.

WC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?

JW: Everything counts. Only have ten minutes to move your body? Do it. Only have the capacity for a quick walk? It’s worth it. The biggest misconception I see around exercise is that it has to be complicated or long to be effective. It doesn’t. You don’t need a matching set or fancy equipment to take care of your body and mind. The best workout is the one you can do consistently, without shame or guilt. Bonus points if you have a little fun while you're doing it.

So how do we pick our Hit Events? They’re curated exclusively for our WellcommDC Community from former High Fives. Each week, we’ll highlight one standout fitness event in the WellcommDC email. This could be:

  • a group workout

  • a pop-up fitness event

  • a race or charity run

  • a pickleball tournament

  • a cycling ride

  • a recovery event or

  • anything else fitness-related

These events will be shared with all Wellcomm email subscribers, but submissions from former High Fives who are subscribers are prioritized, ideally for events they’re organizing, leading, or personally involved with.

We’ll feature one event per week, so spots are limited. We’re grateful for our High Fives and are excited to share these exclusive ongoing updates from the best of the DMV!
