[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Amy Kayser, a group fitness instructor at Life Time Clarendon in Arlington, VA.
Wellcomm: Where do you work…out?
Amy Kayser: Life Time Clarendon is definitely my home base! You can catch me lifting or taking a class there just about any day of the week. When I'm not at Life Time, I run with Team After One, take HYROX classes at The Lab DC, get my butt kicked at Barry’s, or hop into a hot yoga class at the newest local studio in town.
WC: What does wellness mean to you?
AK: I see wellness as my most valuable currency. Health is wealth, and it’s built through the small, everyday investments we make in our mind, body, and soul.
WC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
AK: Oh man, where do I start? Physically, I’m setting goals that challenge me: running 1,000 miles, benching 135 pounds, and completing another marathon. Beyond fitness, I’m focusing on my spiritual and emotional wellness by creating more and consuming less. Music, art, and books help me feel connected and inspired, and I want to intentionally make space for them in my weekly routine, just like I do for movement.
WC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
AK: I'm grateful to say I have never crossed paths with someone in the DMV fitness community who didn't inspire me in some way. Special shoutouts to my marathon partners Donnivien Bertram and Christina Georgia, my lifting motivators Alex Marsh, Jessi Slakman, and Andrea Vela, Celine Berthaud, who always finds new and creative ways to kick my ass, my pals Mary White and Shaun O'Connor, who make fitness fun, and my fellow coaches Juan Marcano, Kennady Whitehead, Shannon McGovern, and Claire Achtermann for their endless encouragement. My community is truly unmatched.
WC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
AK: Try everything once, but don’t force yourself to stick with something you hate. Challenge yourself, push your limits, and experiment, but do it in a way that feels authentic for you. Don’t follow trends just because they’re popular: find the kind of healthy challenge that excites you, keeps you moving, and actually makes you want to show up.
