[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five Heidi Tacktill, an Instructor at SoulFire Collective Yoga in Bethesda, MD.

WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?

Heidi Tacktill: SoulFire Collective Yoga in Bethesda feels like my home base. It is the place where I come back to myself, where movement and breath meet in a way that feels honest. The community there has held me through growth, change, and the kind of inner work that asks you to slow down so you can actually hear yourself again. Every time I walk in, I feel a little more awake in my body and a little more like myself.

WDC: What does wellness mean to you?

HT: Wellness is the practice of coming back into my body instead of living in my head. It is noticing the cues inside, the ones that tell me when I need to move, when I need to rest, and when something deeper is asking for space. Wellness is not perfection or discipline. It is presence. It is learning to trust what rises when you get quiet enough to feel it.

WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?

HT: I want to keep choosing practices that feel nourishing instead of performative. More listening. More movement that makes me feel alive. More breath that helps me clear what I have been holding. I want to keep creating room for curiosity, for pleasure, for the moments that feel like real alignment. My goal is not to add more to my plate, but to simplify so I can deepen.

WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?

HT: Kat and Brooke Wyman, the owners of SoulFire, continually show me what is possible when you lead with heart and courage. Brooke was the one who first opened the door for me into this deeper way of working with the body and the breath, and it changed everything. All the teachers at Soulfire (LT Hether, Celine Delany, Anna Whalen, Gabi Cope, Taylor Moringo, and Alexis Raymond) always remind me how playful and powerful movement can be. Their classes challenge me, soften me, and spark fun and creative ideas in my own classes. And then there are my front row girlies (Carly Sheer, Paula Pinha, and Ashley Julyan) who make every class feel like a bright spot. They bring humor, presence, and the kind of energy that makes you want to show up fully.

WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?

HT: Start small and start from the body. Not from pressure or expectation, but from what actually feels supportive. Let yourself try things on. Let yourself be a beginner. Stay curious long enough to hear what your system has been trying to tell you. Change sticks when it feels like nourishment instead of punishment.
