What do brands like Nike and The Black Tux have in common?
They’ve both partnered with WellcommDC to reach our community.
Now we’re lining up the next wave of brand partners — from local wellness startups to national brands looking to connect with the most engaged members of the DMV’s fitness community — for our Alpha Advertiser Program.
Spots are limited, so if you’d like to be considered for this select group, submit your info here, and we’ll share details before the program launches.
WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?
Jen Katz: I love taking CUT SEVEN classes! Team athletics have been a part of me since childhood. I have found this community pushes me and supports me in all the best ways, while keeping the workouts fresh and varied so I don't get bored. Running and taking my dog for hikes are also a big part of my routine: getting outside is essential. I also try to incorporate yoga and love SoulFire Collective Yoga! I also always love to shout out my favorites in NYC: LYONS DEN for some yoga, The Athletic Clubs, and my former home F45 Fulton St Station.
WDC: What does wellness mean to you?
JK: It means a lot to me: I am also a registered nurse and have worked at hospitals for over a decade. Wellness is all encompassing. Mental and emotional wellness means being surrounded with people who love you and where there’s mutual support and encouragement to achieve more. Physical wellness means maintaining mobility and strength and healthy habits. This year, I have been really working on sleep habits and recovery. The human body is so impressive and capable of withstanding so much, but eventually it will reach a limit. I am working to maintain my overall wellness for my present self and for my future self. Wellness comes with mental, emotional, and physical work, effort, and support.
WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
JK: I am always working to find balance: that's a never ending goal. I also want to finish sub 1:10 at my next solo Hyrox and get back into some swimming. I competed in some triathlons years ago and would love to get back into them! Also, I would love to learn some new skills: take some cooking classes or photography or some other art.
WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
JK: Every female who is out there pushing themselves to achieve a goal or just showing up for themselves. Life is challenging, especially as a woman, and seeing someone find the joy and satisfaction in pushing their limits physically never fails to motivate me. If I have to pick some specific individuals, I would absolutely include Katie Lebel! She is an incredible coach at F45 Arlington, my Hyrox partner, and a wonderful friend and human being. And Joan MacDonald: she is 79 and didn't really start her fitness journey until she was 70. She is so incredible: she’s proof it's never too late to start. I hope I can be as fit as her when I am her age!
WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
JK: Finding something new that you could love and excel at is so exciting! Why not go for it? Nothing is guaranteed in this life, so seize the opportunity, build the plan, and take the chance. There is so much to gain from getting outside your routine and comfort zone.
