What do brands like Nike and The Black Tux have in common?

They’ve both partnered with WellcommDC to reach our community.

Now we’re lining up the next wave of brand partners — from local wellness startups to national brands looking to connect with the most engaged members of the DMV’s fitness community — for our Alpha Advertiser Program.

Spots are limited, so if you’d like to be considered for this select group, submit your info here, and we’ll share details before the program launches.

[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Sydney Blair and Gabi Spina, Cofounders of Boundless Barre in Washington, DC.

WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?

Sydney Blair: Gabi’s Boundless Barre classes are the best ever, and I definitely take advantage of having early access. Outside of Boundless, Bailey Rizer’s District Pilates class is always a ten out of ten, and SoulFire Collective Yoga brings the best energy.

Gabi Spina: Most days, I am just lifting, walking, or running through a Boundless class plan! Class-wise, I love Christie Fabish at Equinox, all of the restorative classes at Up Dog Yoga, and, when I am traveling or in a pinch, I love Megan Roup and The Sculpt Society.

WDC: What does wellness mean to you?

SB: Freedom to live my life as fully as possible, supporting my most grounded, connected, and vibrant self.

GS: Cultivating mental and physical autonomy. Wellness to me looks like wanting to do something and being able to carry out that action without any pain or resistance. While I’m young and mobile, I’m trying to make as many wellness-oriented decisions to set my future self up for a long life of being able to say “Yes” when I want to. Sometimes this looks like going for a walk or reading a book when I want to scroll, and sometimes this is skipping a workout to get some extra sleep after saying “Yes” to another glass of wine with a girlfriend!

WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?

SB: I'm working to create more alignment in my life while simultaneously letting go of control and trusting that everything is working in my favor. I'm a big believer that living a life in alignment with our values and our joy is often overlooked as a pillar of wellness: essentially, what the phrase "getting your spark back" means to me.

GS: I’m working on scaling back! I love being a “Yes” person and have built a lot of my identity around taking on more or doing it all, but I started to burn out quickly. I am working to more intentionally rest, be present with friends and family, and spend less time stressing about being “perfect” with my wellness checklist.

WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?

SB: Gabi pushes me to be a better version of myself, and growing a business together teaches me something new every day. My mom is also the OG wellness influencer. She shows up daily, especially when it feels hard, and has taught me that showing up for ourselves reinforces that we're worth it. And of course, everyone in our Boundless Barre community who chooses to spend their Saturday morning uplifting themselves while connecting with others: nothing more inspiring than that!

GS: Sydney keeps me sane and grounded, and she always has the best advice for anything from an outfit to an existential life question. Someone asked if we were sisters the other day! I was lucky enough to work at MindBody Yoga + Barre in Pittsburgh under the fabulous Carla Addison Higgins, who taught me everything about teaching with grace and showing up in the world. And it’s never a shoutout without including my parents: I’m obsessed with them.

WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?

SB: Simplicity is your best friend: not everything has to be so complicated! There's so much noise out there and an overwhelming access to information, and this tends to drown out what intuitively feels right for us. The crux of a good wellness routine is consistently reconnecting with what actually feels good, rather than what we're told should feel good, and building from there.

GS: Nothing has to be extreme or concrete. I am the queen of announcing to a crowd that I want to do XYZ for accountability, and when I change my mind or miss a goal, I beat myself up and worry that everyone noticed. Any progress toward your goal is progress. If your goal is running a marathon, walking for ten minutes gets you closer to your goal than deciding to do nothing and being upset because you didn’t hit 26 miles.
