[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Lynn Poe, Head Coach and Manager at [solidcore] in Bethesda, MD.
WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?
Lynn Poe: When I'm not working out in a [solidcore] class, I'm running with District Running Collective or popping into Yin Yoga wherever I can find it at spots like SoulFire Collective or Haute Bodhi. I recently started taking some boxing classes at TITLE Boxing Club.
WDC: What does wellness mean to you?
LP: I regard the concept of wellness fluidly and holistically, so more than being about striving for a static or specific goal, I'm aiming to listen to my body and mind and challenge myself whenever possible, but I also prioritize rest, downtime, and recovery. What feels right from day to day and week to week will fluctuate, so while consistency and dedication to moving are key, being in tune with when to push and when to pull back is super important to me for physical and mental stability.
WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
LP: I'm a pretty novice runner, having just started building the habit this year, so running my first race later this year will be a mission I look forward to completing! If you asked me last year if I was considering even running around the block, the answer would have been a resounding "No!" So that’s progress!
WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
LP: My clients are consistently sources of inspiration and motivation to me! Watching them challenge themselves each day and seeing the growth and development that come with time and steadfastness is something that never ever gets old. I truly appreciate the trust my clients place in me, and their willingness to stretch past their comfort zones in pursuit of greater strength is so powerful. I can't not be motivated to do the same for myself when I get to witness those little miraculous moments every day.
WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
LP: To anyone looking to change their wellness routine, you're strong enough to try, so just try! I think it's really easy to get stuck in a cerebral spiral when considering new things with thoughts like "I couldn't possibly handle that" or "I need to do X, Y, and Z first before I can do that" or "That's not for someone like me," and that can trap a lot of us in the "thinking" rather than "doing" phase. I'd implore you to give yourself some credit. You've been learning new things for your whole lifetime, and you don't have to be an expert or be perfect to start something you're curious about. The most important step is simply the first one that you take when embarking on a new endeavor. All you need to be is willing to keep trying!
