[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Lauren Polovoy, a Nutrition Coach, a MADabolic Trainer, and the Equinox DMV Boxing Lead in Washington, DC.

WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?

Lauren Polovoy: MADabolic for strength and conditioning, DC BARBELL CLUB for power lifting, and boxing training with Dre Howard.

WDC: What does wellness mean to you?

LP: Wellness means aligning goals and behaviors: making what you want match what you do. To me, that's the gold standard not just of wellness but also of personal fulfillment. It’s also why people don't have success by trying to mimic others’ behaviors. The right dosage, intensity, and structure of any nutrition or training plan is secondary to your ability and willingness to adhere to it. Finding a rhythm for what works best for each person is the ultimate wellness hack.

WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?

LP: I recently hit a 305 deadlift (2.4 x bodyweight), and I would love to continue raising that number.

WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?

LP: My clients motivate me to continue learning and mastering nutrition and behavioral science. My mom can probably do more push-ups than I can and clocked a leaner body fat percentage than many fitness pros, so I mostly just want to be like her. Special shout out to our H St Boxing Fight Team for Haymakers for Hope, especially Marina Sangit who is barely 5 feet and shows up with a positive attitude regardless of the day, determined to get better and beat up girls 5 inches and 30-plus pounds heavier than she is. My whole Fight Team: Danielle Kraner, Amber Milenkevich, Jayme Canfield, Annie Dragolich, Lauren Sylvester, Natalie Frank, and Casey Nicole.

WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?

LP: Be honest about what it takes to change body composition. It's not always easy, but it's actually very simple. Commit aggressively, and you're never going to regret it. Find what works for you and do it on repeat. Screw the supplements, biohacks, carb vilification, and juice cleanses. Give up the goal weight. Lift heavy.
