[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Rachel Meringer, the Head Coach and Community Manager at [solidcore] in Old Town Alexandria, VA.

WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?

Rachel Meringer: I workout at [solidcore] and balance my strength training with cardio and mobility, mostly on Peloton. Shoutout Rebecca Kennedy and Jess King for all the music and coaching inspiration! I pop into F45 Old Town Alexandria when I can for some functional training. I also love a walk outside in the sunshine, beach volleyball, and pickleball: any way I can move and be outside at the same time. I love variety and finding different ways to move my body!

WDC: What does wellness mean to you?

RM: Wellness means finding peace and balance physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Wellness is about how I sleep, how I move, and how I fuel. It’s the thoughts in my head and the company I keep. It's my relationship with myself, and maintaining it is my first and most important job.

WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?

RM: Over the next twelve months, I want to prioritize slowing down and being present. As a manager and a grad school student, my plate is full, so it's really important for me to find ways to pause and keep my stress low. All my wellness goals right now are about rest, nourishment, mobility, and recovery!

WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?

RM: There are so many! All the coaches and clients at [solidcore] Old Town Alexandria inspire me constantly with their strength and commitment. Kali Dawson Hill has been the most amazing leader, coach, and friend the past year: her support is everything to me! Claire Hamilton is such an inspiring coach and has been a huge source of support for me from my very first day at [solidcore]. My girls Alexa Russell and Abigail Wedding have been with me since Day One of coach/HCCM training. Alyssa Cawley Gonzalez inspires me daily with her strength and resilience. My sweet friend Claudia Hellstrom makes my hiking dreams come true no matter what! My amazing boyfriend Tanner Cash always encourages me to take care of myself and pushes me to be my best self. Lastly, to my family Lee Roberts, Gracie Meringer, and Hannah Roberts: thank you for always coming on sunshine walks with me!

WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?

RM: Start small! Find the minimum you know you can commit to and start with that. Maybe it's a five minute walk outside three times a week. Making a commitment to yourself and keeping it helps build your confidence and momentum! Plus, setting a realistic goal means that anything you do above that is bonus and feels like a huge win. Celebrate every little step, even if it feels small.
