[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Briana Drayton, a Senior Master Coach at [solidcore] and Trainer at SWEATDC in Washington, DC
WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?
Briana Drayton: When I'm not at [solidcore] or SWEATDC, I'm usually training on my own at Onelife Fitness Fort Totten or at Jared Keith Lee’s SoulCycle classes.
WDC: What does wellness mean to you?
BD: Wellness is a commitment to being the best version of you, inside and out. It's how you fuel and move your body, but it's also how you talk to yourself and show up for the current and future versions of you. In order for anyone to have an effective wellness routine, it has to be rooted in discipline not motivation.
WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
BD: I'm planning to do my first Hyrox doubles early next year, so I'm working on being a better runner and building up my stamina. I'm also working towards being able to bench press my bodyweight.
WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
BD: I consider myself lucky to be in the DMV when it comes to wellness accountability because this area is so full of people that keep me going! Conner Jure, Victoria Gasiorowski, Jasmine Day, Starlight Williams Dent, Caitlin Karna, and Corbin Booker all either push me, figuratively and sometimes literally, to keep showing up for myself and testing my limits.
WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
BD: Share your goal with someone you trust to hold you accountable. You alone are responsible for changing your life, but that doesn't mean you don't need support. When someone else knows you're trying to change, they will ask you for updates or offer suggestions. Knowing that you have someone checking in can add a healthy amount of pressure to keep going!
