[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Mintyce Sarae, a Pilates Instructor at LUMA Wellness Studio and Four Pilates in Washington, DC.
WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?
Mintyce Sarae: If I'm not working out at home with the help of online platforms like Alo Moves, then I'm either taking different classes at LUMA or trying different workout studios. I've recently taken classes at Grounded, Hustle DMV, and Rumble Boxing Courthouse and really enjoyed all of the classes!
WDC: What does wellness mean to you?
MS: Wellness means taking care of my health in all aspects, not just physically, but also mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Wellness is in every aspect of my life, from my daily routines, the food I eat, people I spend time with, and things I enjoy doing: everything pours into my well-being.
WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
MS: Over the next twelve months, I want to continue to grow as a Pilates instructor, tap more into strength training, and deepen my yoga practice. Outside of the physical, I want to continue to deepen my spiritual practices and always put my mental health first.
WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
MS: Nesto Rodriguez: he's sticks to his daily routines and shares with his community. It's been incredible to watch his growth and changes in the short time I've known him. Alia Rice: she's an incredible yoga instructor in the area. Taking classes with and watching her personal practice inspires me to stick with myself and see what my body is capable of doing. Arielle Simone: she's a holistic nutritionist who always shares great tips when it comes to food and how to properly nourish your body, but she also does it in a way that makes it fun. Nourishing ourselves should be enjoyable and make us feel good, and she constantly reminds me of that. Alex Elle: she continuously shares reminders and little gems about mental health, and they're always right on time. She makes it feel like it's coming from my big sister: you can feel the love she pours into everything she does. When it comes to holding me accountable, no one does it better than my partner, Yogi Shields: he's also the person who knows all of my goals and things I want to accomplish. He knows how to be gentle with me while reminding me of those goals and helping me stay on course. Finally, Johanna Ricouz: she’s the one who made me really fall in love with Pilates and how it could me feel and look. I also did my mat certification through her. She continues to inspire me to grow as an instructor and student and to live authentically.
WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
MS: Start with one thing. There's so much information being thrown at us from so many different sources, and changing your routine can feel overwhelming, which can lead to not starting at all. Pick one thing and start there. Big changes don't happen overnight: they require time, consistency, and discipline. Also, be gentle with yourself. Some days may be better than others, and that's okay!

A MESSAGE FROM THE BLACK TUX:
Can You Guess Which Suit Costs $1,200?
Plot twist: The one on the right is from The Black Tux and costs under $500. The "luxury" one on the left? That’ll run you $1,200 for essentially the same quality and style.
Your wedding photos will last forever, but that doesn't mean you need to pay forever-prices for a suit that looks identical. Smart brides know where to save without sacrificing style.
