[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Philip Goo, an Instructor at Barry's.

WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?

Philip Goo: I am training for triathlon season, so I swim at Long Bridge, I bike usually in my apartment on Zwift, and I run at Equinox or around the Mall. I cross-train at Barry’s and also love finding epic hikes.

WDC: What does wellness mean to you?

PG: Wellness is a fifteen percent incline sprint at Barry’s, a couch nap on a lazy Saturday afternoon, a new mile PR in a 60 minute spin class at Equinox, and involuntary muscle twitches from dry needling at Pure Sports. Wellness is whatever you do to feel stronger in body and mind.

WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?

PG: I have a half Ironman (Eagleman) in the summer, and a full Ironman (Maryland) and half Ironman in the fall.

WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?

PG: My wife is my biggest inspiration. She was the second overall female in the 2023 Marine Corps Marathon and will sometimes wake up early and run 20 miles before a full day of work. Also, all of my personal training and group fitness clients who push themselves every day to run faster, move better, and live healthier lives.

WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?

PG: Embrace discomfort. One of my friends introduced me to a German saying, “Aller Anfang ist schwer,” which translates to “All beginnings are difficult.” Starting a new routine is always challenging, but as you develop that routine, you can go from fearing workouts or classes to embracing them and making them an integral part of your life.
