[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Claire Hamilton, a Coach at [solidcore].
WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?
Claire Hamilton: I practice what I preach, and [solidcore] has been a huge part of my workout routine ever since I moved to the DC area and discovered it a few years back. The mental and physical challenge of every class makes me leave feeling unstoppable. Kudos to Michelle Martini for introducing me to SoulFire Collective Yoga last year which has also been a game changer for my well being! Outside of the studio, you'll probably find me running on the Mount Vernon Trail or walking with my beagle, Greg.
WDC: What does wellness mean to you?
CH: Wellness is about feeling good in your body. Ditch the trendy fads: focus on moving and fueling your body in a way that makes you feel strong and energized. Building strength > burning calories.
WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
CH: I'm running my first marathon at the Marine Corps Marathon in the fall! I'm proudly #RunningForAutism with the Organization for Autism Research. My goal is just to run, take in all the emotions, and raise money for a good cause. You can donate to my fundraising campaign here!
WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
CH: There are so many humans I am grateful for in this regard! Shoutout to my next door neighbor Kateleen Hall who is always down to take a class or motivate me to go on a run. Since Day One of [solidcore] training, Abby Pineyro and Shannon Drury have been by my side supporting me and challenging me to be the strongest version of myself. We've come a long way since barely being able to talk for ten minutes on the mic! Kali Dawson-Hill and Rachel Meringer: thank you for being the best leaders and all around badass humans. Last but not least, my mom, Karen Pettit, who has always led by example when it comes to nourishing my body and training for a long and healthy life. Love y'all!
WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
CH: As humans, we're wired to do things that are easy and avoid things that are hard. Regardless of where you are in your wellness journey, you'll have days where you feel motivated but also days where it feels much easier to hit snooze or scroll on TikTok. Remember that consistency wins over motivation every single time, even if it's just getting out for a walk!
