[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to William Filiault (@_williamfiliault) co-founder of the After Hours Run Club.
WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?
William Filiault: Over the past year, I’ve been working out at VIDA. However, nothing compares to the joy I get from being outdoors—whether it’s running by the monuments or through Georgetown, the views never disappoint. As cheesy as it may sound, my favorite part about running outside is passing another runner and sharing a high five. If you’ve been to The After Hours Run Club, you know I’m all about high fives and energetic vibes. So if you see me out on a run, give me a high five—it’ll make my day!
WDC: What does wellness mean to you?
WF: Wellness, to me, is a sound peace of mind. I see wellness as multidimensional—it involves nurturing your mental, physical, social, and emotional well-being. I truly believe that once you figure out what works for you, life becomes a bit easier. Although I’m still learning and evolving in my wellness journey, I’ve grown to appreciate the experiences, self-reflection, and connections that come with it. Journaling, listening to podcasts, reading books, and cultivating meaningful relationships have all played a vital role in developing my overall well-being.
WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
WF: My goal is to make progress in each of those areas—to find new hobbies and experiences that challenge me and help me grow. If I can be better than I was yesterday and continue to find enjoyment in the journey—the ups, downs, lefts, and rights—with great people by my side, then I’d say that captures my wellness goals.
In closing, I want to keep building and expanding what Kate Hastings (@katee_hastings) and I are creating with The After Hours Run Club. We want to make this a community where everyone can come, have fun, and feel welcome—so expect more runs, more events, and definitely more high fives. If you’re ever in the area, join us on Wednesday nights at 6:30 pm at the White House (North Entrance)!
WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
WF: My parents and sisters have been amazing supporters of my wellness journey. My mom is a total badass who has always pushed me to be my best self in all pursuits. As for my dad, he has provided unwavering love, support, and guidance—always giving me the very best opportunities to succeed. The older I get, the more I appreciate the time, money, and life sacrifices they’ve made to allow me to become who I am today.
As for my two sisters, Soph Filiault (@sophiefiliault) and Jules Filiault (@juliafiliault) - they are the best. Soph is always there to pick me up and will never, ever… ever hold back in telling me when I’m acting like a jackass and not living up to my potential. Lol—love you, Soph. Jules has always been in my corner, my biggest fan throughout high school football and lacrosse. She’s kept that going as I’ve moved on to play college lacrosse, and I can’t wait to support her as she begins her next chapter as a Division I swimmer. #ProudBrotherMoment
Thank you to the people in college who taught me the importance of moving your body and finding your people—thank you, TJ Spahn, Brendan Kazanjian, (@b_kaz95), Michael Bomes (@michaelbomes), and Joe Rochte.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank the many coaches and mentors who helped shape me into the man I am today through sports: Chad Grier (@coachgrier7), Ken Loeber, Coach Cruz, and Jason Heller. Thank you for always being an example and providing guidance and wisdom along the way.
WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
RO: My advice is simple: step outside your comfort zone. You’ll never know if yoga, running, or Barry's is right for you until you give it a try. Embrace challenging—and sometimes uncomfortable—situations; doing so not only helps you discover what you might not enjoy, but also deepens your appreciation for the activities you do love.
